About Me
Who am I? Well, my day job is as a librarian – a techie one – at a small college in New York. But, seriously, I’m the webmaster for Dowling College Library, where I get to implement new technologies, train other librarians in their use, and just have fun. I’m also the local aviation reference expert based upon my prior experience as a librarian at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
But, I’ve failed to introduce myself. I’m Laura Pope Robbins. I’ve been happily married for a long time, and my husband and I have a wonderful son and five cats. I hope to add a dog to that mix someday.

About this Site
Why a blog? Well, as an academic librarian, I’m about to embark on my first sabbatical. It’s exciting and scary at the same time. Six months without stepping into the library. Six months without writing XHTML (well, okay, I’ll most probably be doing some of that anyway
). Six months to explore new ideas, refresh myself, and be a full-time mom.
The focus of my sabbatical is to explore bookbinding. I’ve been doing some bookbinding for about 13 years or so, but I haven’t had a lot of formal training in it and would really like to learn more. Enter the Center for Book Arts. This is a wonderful organization in New York City that offers classes in bookbinding, printmaking, and anything related to book arts. I was fortunate enough to take a class there several years ago and have been yearning to return and learn more. Now is my chance. I’ll be taking five classes at the Center during my sabbatical, and I’ll be using this blog to record what I’m learning and hopefully post pictures of what I’m creating. In the end, this will also help me to write my sabbatical report.
This blog is also a learning journey for me. Can I keep it up? Will I become obsessed with it? What kind of commitment does it really require?

I just came across your site while looking up info for a patron – how many Laura Pope Robbins can there be? OMG you still look exactly the same! How are you? I’ve missed you and our ERAU days. Drop me a note sometime.
